Wetland Delineation Surveys
Wetlands are protected by state and federal law because they act as a critical physico-chemical buffer for our waterways and water supplies: they trap and filter sediment, agricultural and industrial pollution, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and pathogens and also attenuate flooding events by acting as ‘sponges’ for storm water. Wetlands also harbor diverse floral and faunal species, some of which are vulnerable or endangered.
Whether on a small single-family residential parcel or multi-phase commercial development site, the wetland delineation survey is a critical component in establishing the amount of usable acreage and the feasibility of a project.
As of 2024, Excelsior's ecological staff have completed more than 450 wetland delineation surveys throughout the State of Florida. All wetland delineation surveys are conducted in accordance with F.A.C. 62-340 utilizing best practices established by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Our staff is also familiarized with local and state buffer requirements, which are another important considerations when determining the potential use, permitting, and mitigation aspects of a project.
